Professor King Lun Ngok (March 2006)
Professor King Lun Ngok (Associate Professor, School of Government, Sun Yat Sin University, China) has just completed his term as Benjamin Meaker Fellow at the Centre for East Asian Studies (CEAS). During his stay with in March, Dr. Ngok taught various sessions on our Chinese Politics unit and gave a seminar as part of the ‘Universities and Ideas’ Seminar Series. During his visit, Dr Ngok developed variouls research projects with colleagues at CEAS:
* "Class Formation in China's Transitional Economy: A Study of the Emerging Middle Class in Post-Mao China" (Applicants: Professor Ka Ho Mok, Professor Ray Forrest and Professor King Lun Ngok [from China], aiming at ESRC Research Grant)
* "The Peasant Workers in China: A New Working Class in the Making" (applicants: Professor Ka Ho Mok and Professor King Lun Ngok [from China], grant application to the British Academy Small Grant)

Professor Li Qiang (July 2006)
Professor Li Qiang, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Tsing Hua University, Beijing China, will be visiting the Centre for East Asian Studies as Benjamin Meaker Fellow in July 2006.
Whilst Professor Li Qiang is here, he will be giving a key-note speech at the International Conference on 'GDPism and Risk: Challenges for Social Development and Governance in East Asia' and will develop international collaborations with colleagues at CEAS. He will work closely with colleagues in the areas of social stratification and social change project with special focus on China.
Professor Joseph Cheng (2007)
Professor Joseph Cheng is Chair Professor in Political Science and also Director of the Contemporary China Research Project at City University of Hong Kong. He will be visiting the Centre for East Asian Studies for four weeks as a Benjamin Meaker Fellow in 2007.
Whilst Joseph is here he will be working on research projects with Professor
Ray Forrest and Professor Ka Ho Mok. He will participate in teaching activities
and also give seminars on the topic of 'China and the World'.
