With the support from the Embassy of Japan, London and the Japan Foundation, the Centre for East Asian studies organised a 'Japan Day' to promote a better understanding of Japanese culture and society on 27 February 2006. The event was well attended and demonstrates the centres continual commitment in promoting a better understanding of East Asia in Bristol.

Mr Takao Anzawa, First Secretary of Japan Information and Cultural Centre, Embassy of Japan London attended the event and his presence shows the Embassy’s strong support to the new University initiative.

Professor Ka Ho Mok remarked in his opening address that 'CEAS is committed to promoting a better understanding of Japan being one of the major players in East Asia. The centre will explore further collaborations with the Japan Embassy and the Japan Foundation in engaging students and academics to study fast recovering economies’
