Louise Pulford, MSc in East Asian Studies

"I have continued to develop my interest in China outside of the work environment. Just two weeks ago, I went to the Guildhall for the 48 Group Club Chinese New Year Dinner at which the Mayor of the City of London, the Chinese Ambassador and many other high profile guests attended. I was also lucky enough in the autumn to visit the Chinese Embassy for a networking event.

Many thanks for helping to create CEAS and putting together an amazing course. I am really proud to have been in the first batch of CEAS MSc graduates and intend to continue to pursue the interest in China I developed during the course.

Xin nian Kuai le!

Alex Devoto, MSc in East Asian Studies

The MSc was well put together and I feel that we got a good grounding in East Asian studies, which is quite a mammoth task, considering the breadth of the subject!

One thing I really appreciated was that there was a real difference in the teaching and interaction between staff and students compared to an undergraduate degree. The course was much more relaxed and the lecturers really listened to our issues and made substantial efforts to help us.

I felt that I learnt a lot about the subject in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere, so much so that I recommended the course to a good friend, who is now in the process of applying!

Oliver Mitchell, MSc in East Asian Studies

I thought the Masters programme was excellent because it combined passionate and experienced academics with a friendly and open working environment.

The course design gives you real opportunities to explore your personal interests in-depth and then feed your thoughts and findings back into the programme. The balance between mandatory classes and options (including individual research) was spot-on!

Throughout the course we were graced with expert guest speakers on a very wide range of topics relating to East Asia. The good thing is that all the seminars were accessible to us students and I felt elevated much above the position of someone (my old self!) studying a traditional, rigid degree. I felt that we were being looked after very well as both a student group and at the individual level, with close informal feedback as well as formal quality monitoring of the classes.

I would be very happy to recommend the course to anyone.
