From Everest to the Yukon: the life of an adventurous medic
Dr Steele will describe his lifelong love of the wilderness and recount some of his most memorable and intrepid journeys. In addition to forming part of the centenary lecture series, this is also the 2009 Paul Esser Memorial Lecture.

Since qualifying in 1960, Dr Steele has practised medicine in Nepal, Newfoundland and the Yukon. An inveterate and intrepid traveller, he has crossed the Sahara on a camel, travelled across the Atlas mountains on a donkey, and, with his wife and their two children under the age of four, undertaken a six-month expedition to the Bhutan Himalaya.
He is the author of Two and Two Halves to Bhutan and Doctor on Everest, which recounts his experiences as medical officer to the international Everest expedition in 1971.
