Bristol looks increasingly to regular alumni donations to help maintain the outstanding student experience it offers. When the University has a steady stream of income to rely on, it can plan a more successful future for its students.

By completing a Gift Aid Tax Declaration you can increase the value of your donation by nearly one third at no additional cost to you.

When you fill in the Gift Aid Tax Declaration, the tax you pay on your gift can be reclaimed by the University on donations of any amount, made by any method provided it is made by a UK tax payer.

This means that for every £100 you give, the University can claim an extra £25 to help support the cause you have specified.

Higher rate tax payers

If you pay income tax at the higher rate, the University can reclaim tax as if it was paid at the basic rate and you reclaim the difference from the Inland Revenue in the form of additional relief by showing the donation on your tax return.

Giving Books for the Library

The University is pleased to accept gifts of items for the Library which fall within the general selection criteria outlined here, i.e. items which support University learning, teaching and research, which develop existing collection strengths or fill identified gaps, or which are materials of regional, national or international significance not elsewhere available in the region. However, it must be recognised that gifts are not ‘free’, as they require staff time and accommodation. Therefore, the Library is unable to accept gifts of items which fall outside these criteria. The Library is under great pressure of space for housing books and as such books need to either be core reading texts for students or be of exceptional value and importance.

We want to ensure that your gift can be used as you hope and intend, so we do ask that you please contact Jo Lippiatt on 0117 928 7938 or jo.lippiatt@bristol.ac.uk to discuss your proposed gift in advance.
