What your money can do
- 2,000 donors each giving £25 will help to catalogue and make accessible our internationally important collections of ceramics, props, objects, costume and film, and sound recordings.
- 1,000 donors each giving £100 will provide a new teaching laboratory, including audio-visual, lighting and sound equipment.
The arts and humanities excel at Bristol. Resources and opportunities provided by donations are helping talented departments become even more successful.
Do you care about your heritage?
Bristol was the first UK university to introduce the study of drama. Since its pioneering beginnings in 1947, the department has nurtured and informed the world of theatre, film and television in many significant ways. What’s more, the University’s Theatre Collection, an Accredited Museum, has protected the archival heritage of British professional theatre and made it accessible to generations of practitioners and scholars alike. It continues to do so today and is open to all.
Talented students, researchers and creative professionals all thrive in this unique environment, but we need your support to enable us to constantly improve the collection’s accessibility, and to provide the best possible teaching and learning spaces and equipment.
Areas supported in 2011/12
- Your gifts enabled Master’s degree students in History of Art to curate a special exhibition on French nineteenth century painting, at the National Museum of Wales.
- A new grand piano and two upright pianos were purchased with your support. They are now enriching the experience of Music students as they rehearse for performances in Bristol’s regular programme of public music concerts.
- The Heritage Lottery Fund awarded the University a grant of £38,500 to create a living history of Bristol, in the form of gardens grown from seeds transported to Bristol in ships’ ballast in the 18th to 20th centuries. Tended by primary school children from ethnically diverse areas of Bristol, it is hoped that this project will encourage greater community cohesion.
- Inside Arts, a three-day festival of student presentations, concerts, recitals, lectures, public talks, debates and workshops, was launched by the Faculty of Arts thanks to your gifts. It was so well received that it will run again in 2013, providing a vital window into Bristol’s research and teaching in the arts and humanities.
