What your money can do

  • 100 donors each giving £50 would purchase over 140 text books.
  • 250 donors each giving £100 would buy access to electronic backfiles of newspapers from the UK and abroad from the earliest publication dates. These will allow new threads of research to be undertaken using modern text retrieval methods.
  • 200 donors each giving £250 would provide a rechargable laptop lending facility in the Arts and Social Sciences Library and the Wills Library.

Whether providing important opportunities or recognising excellence, donor funds directly impact Bristol students. Bursaries and scholarships change lives and extracurricular opportunities enhance the student experience for all. Below are just a few examples of how donations are helping students today.

Do you care about your university?

By making your university one of your charitable priorities, your giving has a powerful ripple effect - first with a positive impact on today’s students, and then through the impact they will make on the wider world as a result of their Bristol experience.

Library provisions

At the intellectual heart of any great university is a well-stocked and efficient library. New technologies are changing the way students and academics use libraries, requiring more space for collective learning around computers and through discussion, alongside more traditional quiet study spaces. Key books and journals remain a priority even as online provision improves.

Thousands of students pass through the doors of Bristol’s libraries every day. This vital space needs to embrace new developments and provide up-to-date resources and technologies that will assist students in their daily studies.

Areas supported in 2011/12

  • As tuition fees increase from October 2012, Bristol must continue to attract the best students regardless of their financial circumstances. The Access to Bristol scheme encourages disadvantaged Bristol-based schoolchildren to apply to university, and where possible provides financial support. This year, thanks to you, 40 students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to study at university will benefit from a Bristol education.
  • PhD students underpin the research of academics and represent the future of research at Bristol. Your ongoing funding supports the most talented individuals through their studies, to ensure that they excel at and complete vital research projects.
  • As Bristol celebrates the Olympic achievements of six alumni and one current student, who collectively won five medals at London 2012, investment in sport has never been more important. Donations totalling over £41,000 are paying for professional coaches for student sports teams including rugby, hockey and volleyball.
  • Bristol invests in its business leaders of the future. Thanks to you, four student owners are on internships at the University’s Basecamp student enterprise support agency. Each student will receive coaching, office space, and a £1,500 grant to invest in their business, encouraging them to realise their dreams as entrepreneurs.
