Law library

Project aim

To ensure that the very best resources are provided to support Bristol’s law students, today and in the future.

Target

£2.5 million.

Recognising significant support

  • Donor recognition on the entrance to the Library
  • Naming opportunities within and of the Library

We need to develop the Bristol Law Library to make sure that it provides the facilities that law students at a leading law school need to support the new ways of learning and research which are emerging. A redesign and revamp of space usage and facilities will maintain our position as a leading School of Law.
Keith Stanton, Professor of Law

The heart of any School of Law is its library. Improvements are needed to sustain Bristol’s superb reputation for producing top law graduates.

Importance

Law, as an academic discipline, is in a constant state of change and growth and Bristol’s Law Library works hard to keep pace.

The Law Library is vital for teaching and research, and in its current state, our library no longer provides the facilities that students studying at a premier law school expect and require if they are to achieve their potential as the leading barristers and solicitors of the future.

Refurbishing the beautiful Wills Memorial Building library will enable Bristol to modernise electronic resources while maintaining a core collection of books, journals and other materials.

Impact

The Law Library refurbishment will lead to a reduction of sound levels, a maximisation of study space and wireless access for laptop use. We will also provide law students with some dedicated social learning spaces. In a refreshed and modern law library, the pursuit of excellence will become contagious.

Goal

To mark the 75th anniversary of the School of Law in 2008 and as part of the University’s Centenary Campaign, the University of Bristol is seeking to raise £2.5 million to ensure that the very best resources are provided to support Bristol’s law students today and in the future.

Specifically, funds raised will update and upgrade the facilities in the main Law Library, and potentially develop a mooting court.
