Credits

If you are visiting from Europe

European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS)

ECTS is a scheme operated throughout Europe that enables you to transfer credits between the different universities you attend.

Amount of credit you should study

  • 60 ECTS credits represent a full year of study (equivalent to 120 University of Bristol credits)
  • 30 ECTS credits represent one semester (equivalent to 60 University of Bristol credits).

For example, if a course/unit has 20 Bristol credit points, it has 10 ECTS credits.

Your home university can advise you about how Bristol credits transfer back to your degree.

If you are visiting from outside Europe

Amount of credit you should study

  • a full-time workload at Bristol for a year equals 120 Bristol credits
  • a full-time workload at Bristol for a semester equals 60 Bristol credits
  • you should only do less than this if you have written permission from your home university to take a reduced workload
  • you will not be allowed to take less than 50 credits per semester under any circumstances. This is the minimum number of credits to be considered a full-time student at Bristol.

Your home university can advise you about how Bristol credits transfer back to your degree.
