Our bodies…

“Our bodies eventually become our own autobiographies”

I think this is a fascinating idea.  As someone in my family progresses with terminal illness I wonder to what degree this can be true.  Sure, our bodies display the marks of the things that have happened to us – scars from operations, from falling over in the playground, but what about chronic conditions that develop over time?  Are they always a manifestation of who we are in the world?

Leave us your thoughts….

One Response to “Our bodies…”

Out bodies may be the autobiographies of our physical lives, with scars on out skins on inside out bodies showing how they developed through out lives but these scars have no relation to how we developed as people. We cannot see what the scars made us or those around us feel and are autobiographies, once we have passed, are not locking into our bodies, but into those people that we leave behind, into shared experiences, into our shared memories. Our bodies only tell one small part of a much larger story.
