About the Multifaith Chaplaincy

The University of Bristol Multifaith Chaplaincy seeks to serve students and staff of all faiths and none by:

  • Providing opportunities to explore spirituality, faith and belief
  • Offering confidential personal support
  • Giving religious advice and information
  • Supporting the University as an institution
  • Supporting local faith communities in their work with, and for, students and staff of the University.

We are an independent body located within the Student Services division of the Office of the Registrar.

For more information about our aims, objectives and management, and the provisions for the appointment and accountability of Chaplains and Local Faith Contacts you can read the Multifaith Chaplaincy's structure document (PDF 52KB).

All new Chaplains sign the Multifaith Statement (PDF 41.1KB) to signal their commitment to working within the Multifaith ethos of the Chaplaincy.

The Multifaith Chaplaincy is open from Monday to Friday during term time, from 11.00 to 5.00pm. Our building contains a number of different spaces:

  • The Common Room is open to all members of the University to sit and chat, meet friends or study while enjoying  our free Fairtrade tea and coffee. On Mondays we serve homemade vegetarian soup from 12.30-2.00pm, and on Friday's the Common Room is home to our student-run Fairtrade Cafe, which serves an array of delicious treats from 12.00pm.
  • The Quiet Room is a place to sit and pray, meditate or just take some time to reflect in the midst of a busy day.
  • The Anne Spencer Reading Room has a small theological library, thanks to a generous grant from the Alumni Association. It's a great space to study, and is also used for various society meetings.
  • The Activity Room is another popular space for society events, and has its own pool table.

There are also spaces where you can meet with a Chaplain in confidence - there is always a Chaplain on duty during our opening hours, who will be happy to talk to you about anything, or if you prefer to make an appointment then feel free to contact any of the team by email.

The Common Room, Reading Room and Activity Room are all Wireless Hotspots so bring your laptop and make yourself at home.
