My main function is to provide technical support in the areas of research and teaching for the Physical and Theoretical section of the School of Chemistry, in the area of Atmospheric Chemistry (ACRG).
Within ACRG I work with Professor Dudley Shallcross and Dr Simon O'Doherty on various aspects of halocarbon monitoring and atmospheric modelling. This work is associated with the maintenance of certain equipment for both the main laboratory facility here at Bristol, the ACRG mobile laboratory, and for various remote monitoring sites including some run by the AGAGE consortium. 1993 (ish) to now I came here as the technician for the MSc course in Analytical Chemistry that the School was then running. This got me involved with Dr. Graham Nickless and his group of atmospheric chemists, along with the heavy metal polution squad looking at transport of heavy metals through soils. As always things change, and the demise of the MSc course allowed a greater involvment with the Environmental Teaching lab and the added task of looking after the GC and HPLC equipment there, as well as an increased input to the computing side of the group.
