The ability of catalysts to transform simple chemical building blocks into more complex and valuable products is an intensive area of fundamental research, as well as pivotal technology for the pharmaceutical, chemical and fuels industry.
A recent report by the Royal Society of Chemistry highlights this crucial contribution to the UK economy, some 21% of UK GDP and 15% of all exports being reliant on catalytic processes.
Research at Bristol is focussed on homogeneous catalysis with organometallic compounds, an area which has always been a strength of School of Chemistry and primary objectives include the development of greener chemistry through more selective and novel catalyst systems.
