Research summary

Aerosols play a crucial role in a broad range of disciplines from atmospheric science to drug delivery to the lungs to the delivery of fuels for combustion. Despite their importance, our understanding of the fundamental processes that occur on aerosol particles remains limited. The Bristol Aerosol Research Centre uses optical and electrodynamic techniques to capture and manipulate single particles or arrays of particles, and optical spectroscopy to interrogate their size, composition and morphology. In particular, experiments are underway to improve our understanding of how particles response to changes in relative humidity, the heterogeneous chemical aging of particles, the optical properties ...

Jonathan P. Reid (JPR) is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Bristol.

He has over 90 publications in the areas of aerosols, optical spectroscopy, chemical reaction dynamics and energy transfer.

After completing his PhD at the University of Oxford in 1997, JPR moved to the University of Colorado (USA) as a postdoctoral research fellow. He was appointed to a Lectureship at the University of Birmingham in 2000, moving to the University of Bristol in March 2004, from which time he held an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship. He was promoted to Reader in 2006, to Professor in 2009, and ...
