The School Teacher Fellow, Director of Outreach and Science Communicator in Residence positions has allowed research into the impact of Chemistry outreach on school students, teachers and also on the postgraduates who co deliver such events. Bristol ChemLabS outreach has had masters students investigating this impact through teh MSc by research and withi the Masters in Science and Education (formerly MSc SURE) course at the Graduate School of Education, University of Bristol.
The work in the development of the Dynamic Laboratory Manual has also led to research in the impact of supported pre-lab work in projects such as Foundation LabSkills ...
He began teaching at Crown Woods School (ILEA), in Eltham, London from 1982-1988. His responsibilities included being 2nd in charge of Chemistry and in charge of less able science.
In 1988 he moved to Rednock School, Dursley, Gloucestershire as Head of Chemistry and was the Science College Director responsible for working with the community and extracurricular science activities for his students. Tim also taught at Mackay North SHS, Queensland, Australia as a seconded teacher of Chemistry.
