Park Street
Plenty of clothing outlets here (both well-known chains and independent retailers), along with a few funky little knick-knack merchants and the 100-year-old Bristol Guild, which stocks a vast range of jewellery, toys, furniture, ceramics, kitchenware, gourmet foods and much more.
Cabot Circus
The shiny new Cabot Circus development extends the central shopping district of Broadmead, which now offers pretty much every high street name plus a few extra ones. Plenty of places for a coffee break too, and a Showcase multiplex nestled in the main atrium.
Gloucester Road
If you like your shopping more earthy and independent, Gloucester Road will hit the spot. This is where to go for vintage clothes, second-hand books, vinyl records, freshly baked bread, organic food, ethnic fabrics... that sort of thing.
St Nicholas Market
One of the Guardian’s top ten markets in the UK, St Nicholas Market is located in the Exchange, an 18th-century building on Corn Street in the Centre. There are over 60 independent businesses beneath its roof, including a Hot Sauce Emporium and a clairvoyant.
Flea market
True to its origins as a community of wealthy merchants, Clifton Village teems with gorgeous upscale boutiques, but there’s also plenty for the more modest budget. One of the highlights is the beautiful Clifton Arcade, which dates from the Victorian era and houses a community of small shops.
Cribbs Causeway
To the north of the city is Cribbs Causeway retail park, where all the big names have outlets. Also to be found are a cinema multiplex, bars and restaurants, and – in December – a Christmas market and ice rink.
