After working in both the Civil Service and industry obtained a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences (Ecology) from University of Exeter and then a PhD (Ecology of Myxogastrids) from University of Bristol which was continued as a post-doctoral research.
A fully qualified teacher (D of E) and member of the Institute of Learning and Teaching. Founder member of the Institute of Ecologists and Environmental Managers and also the Institute of Environmental Management and Audit. Works as a consultant in biodiversity assessment. Research projects include: biodiversity assessment of a candidate World Heritage Site in Turkey ; biodiversity assessment of macrofungi; teaching and learning for part-time students.
