Partnerships

Our research partnerships channel scientific advances into progressive and innovative patient care.

This partnership approach also underpins our study programmes which incorporate the latest clinical practice and research for the next generation of clinicians and researchers.

Here are just some of our collaborations.

Key partnerships with the NHS and the pharmaceutical industry are fundamental to developing our clinical science and practice.

Bristol Heart Institute

Cardiovascular experts from the school are members of the internationally-recognised Bristol Heart Institute (BHI). The institute is a leading centre of research into cardiovascular disease and offers patients the latest treatments and care.

The £57 million centre, brings together world-leading experts in cardiovascular science and disease from the University and Bristol’s NHS trusts.

The importance of the institute’s research was recognised by substantial funding from the National Institute for Health Research to set up a Biomedical Research Unit for cardiovascular research.

For current treatments of all forms of cardiovascular disease to improve, the underlying causes need to better understood, I believe that having scientists and clinicians working together under the umbrella of the Bristol heart institute is the ideal way to achieve these aims.

Severnside Alliance for Translational Research

Our clinicians are working alongside scientific researchers and the pharmaceutical industry at the Severnside Alliance for Translational Research (SARTRE) to translate research into clinical science and practice.

This collaboration between the Universities of Bristol and Cardiff is a leading research hub in the region, harnessing the innovative and entrepreneurial vision of experts across the medical sector.

Janssen are delighted to enter into a partnership with SARTRE... we hope that we can convert some of this top quality academic research into novel solutions for drug discovery.

Bristol Neuroscience

Our experts are part of the Bristol Neuroscience network, a group of acclaimed neuroscientists drawn from across the University and partner hospitals to find solutions to the key scientific, clinical, and real-life questions in neuroscience.

Since its inception in 2003, the Bristol Neuroscience model has been emulated by Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Oxford and University College London.

Bristol Health Partners

The school is part of Bristol Health Partners, a partnership between the University, UWE, NHS trusts and the City Council.

By incorporating initiatives for both teaching and research collaboration it aims to improve health outcomes by accelerating research into practice and looking at new ways of delivering clinical services.

Education programmes

We work with the NHS to deliver programmes for medical students, researchers and clinical specialists ranging from hospital-based training with patients for trainee doctors to lab-based practice and distance learning for those developing their careers in medical practice and research science.
