Backup
Data Backup:
Backing up of data is taken most seriously. At CSNB we have the following in operation at Southmead.
Primary Server - the central, primary point for all generated data.
Secondary Server - to which all data from the main server is backed up nightly by two independent methods.
Off-site backup of both servers - incremental Mon-Fri, Full backup at weekends - data can be recovered from any date in the previous 3 months.
Recovery from the Secondary server has time points; 1yr, 6mnths, then every day for last 3 months.
Additionally both servers are built in such a way that if any one of the six hard drives fails, data will be preserved.
The entire operating system disk is also fully backed up.
Should any hardware fail, then our service agreement will have it up and running again within 24 working hrs. Once again it should be emphasised that no data can be lost*.
*Except what you are working on during the day prior to the nightly backup - saving documents regularly to the primary server will limit data loss.
FRENCHAY has the same procedure except off-site backup is not possible due to the size of data and the 10x slower bandwidth. This will be addressed in 2011.
