Orthopaedic Surgery

The Orthopaedic Surgery group is located in the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital, one of the largest joint replacement centres in the UK.

The Head of Orthopaedic Surgery is Professor Ashley Blom.

The orthopaedic research team includes experts in orthopaedic surgery, chronic pain, physiotherapy, epidemiology, statistics, health economics, psychology, systematic review, qualitative research methodology, and outcome measurement.

Alongside the clinical research is a suite of five modern laboratories with facilities to support routine mammalian cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology and stromal cell work. The laboratories and clinical research facilities are co-located to facilitate translational research.
