Information for staff
The University of Bristol operates a policy of peer observation (83kb Word doc) that should be implemented across all Departments and Faculties.
The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has decided to undertake peer review from the academic year 2006/2007. (The Dental school has already had a well-established procedure for several years). The Heads of Teaching and the Director of Medical Education established the process and template for the review process.
In the Department of Community Based Medicine, Dr Anne Lingford-Hughes (Head of Teaching) will organise the process and match teaching staff with an appropriate reviewer. All staff will be observed once over a three year period.
Please read the Instructions for Peer Review (21kb Word doc) and check the Peer Review Template:
Please note version B has more space for comments.
More information about the background and process can be found in the following presentations by Richard Edwards, TSU and Dr Anne Lingford-Hughes:
- presentation - Richard Edwards (1.37Mb PowerPoint doc)
- presentation - Anne Lingford-Hughes (50kb PowerPoint doc)
The information that is collected will be kept centrally and a copy sent to relevant unit/element organisers.
We believe that this process will help maintain the excellent quality of teaching as well as provide useful materials for teaching portfolios, annual appraisal and submissions for promotion.
If you have any queries please contact Dr Andrew Blythe (Head of Teaching).
