2012 Support Staff Elections to Court and Council

Court vacancies

The University is inviting nominations from Support Staff members who would like to stand for election to the University Court. From 1 August 2012, there will be 15 vacancies for Support Staff representatives on Court. These 15 members will serve three-year terms to 31 August 2015.

Categories of staff for Court Elections

In accordance with Ordinance 4, separate elections will be conducted for each of the three categories of support staff, as follows:

  • Operational Services: 4 seats

  • Technical Services: 2 seats

  • Administrative and Professional Services: 9 seats

The deadline for submission of nominations midday on Friday, 18 May 2012.

Membership of Court

There are some 585 members of Court. The members include the officers of the University, members of Council and Senate, emeritus professors, benefactors, members of the Society of Merchant Venturers, representatives of local authorities, persons appointed by the Privy Council, representatives of other universities, local members of Parliament, representatives of local and professional bodies, and 100 members elected by Convocation. Meetings of Court

Court normally meets once a year in December. The Chancellor presides. Court considers the annual accounts and the strategy and management of the University. Court may hold special meetings at the request of its members. Further information is available under Statute 12.

Powers of Court

Court receives reports from Council and an annual audited statement of accounts. Court may comment on the affairs of the University, may advise Council on any matter relating to the University, and may invite Council to review a decision. Further information is available under Statute 13.
