New location
Bristol Dental School has moved to a £36million purpose-designed Dental School in Bristol City Centre. We're helping our students to put theory into practice in state-of-the-art facilities and working with the local community to offer treatment to those in need. At Avon Street, we will manage our clinical space and bookings, expand the intake of student places, introduce a range of new programmes and create jobs.
We've completely refurbished an existing building in the heart of the city. Students have fed into decisions on the project board and represented the student voice to make this space one of a kind.

Our focus is high-quality training for dental professionals to prepare them for work in primary care dentistry. The new model ensures we have an exclusive space specifically designed to support clinical education and training but retaining a strong partnership with Bristol Dental Hospital.
Our newfound flexibility to manage this space and our patient lists, means we can expand intakes and introduce new programmes as well as engage with underrepresented communities, delivering patient care and oral health education through our students, and by promoting access to training through our established widening participation routes.

Bristol Dental School is one of the first buildings to open in the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.
Public art
Bristol Dental School partnered with Aardman Animations, the renowned Bristol-based creative studio, to help celebrate the opening of the new school. Aardman created five toothy characters to welcome the community to this new space with public art. They were collectively named by Erin Oliver via a student competition and announced at the opening as 'The Denticles'.
We also worked with Upfest and local artist Bex Glover, who designed and painted two murals featuring the characters.

Meeting the needs of modern healthcare: Bristol Dental School is on the move
Bristol Dental Hospital
There will continue to be a strong link between Bristol Dental School and the Dental Hospital on Lower Maudlin Street, through specialist placements for undergraduate students and for postgraduate students who work alongside NHS Consultant clinics.
The Dental Hospital will continue to treat NHS patients requiring specialist care.
Project Team
It will be three years from site identification to opening the building in September 2023. The multi-divisional project team have worked closely with the school to create a purpose-built facility that supports the global call to revolutionise oral healthcare and improve people's quality of life. The facility now has CQC registration to provide patient care.
Extensive networks have been developed with HEE, NHS Commissioners, Regulators, Healthwatch and other stakeholders to deliver this unique model for Bristol Dental School. Our staff are engaged with national policy advisory groups and professional bodies.
