Good practice is key to maintaining the high standard of education for which the University is known.
The Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (TLHE) programme aims to support staff in delivering research-led teaching, in developing pedagogy, the scholarship of their discipline and an understanding how to engage students to learn effectively. Academic staff at Bristol are offered ongoing support and development opportunities through TLHE, designed to uphold the standard of professional practice, both within the University and as part of the UK Professional Standards Framework.
Vitae, the researcher development organisation, also supports supervisors of postgraduate researchers, with advice and guidance on the process of supervising a doctorate. As supervisors, academic staff take on a combination of roles: guide, mentor, source of information, coach and an inspiration; Vitae supports supervisors in all these areas.
The Researcher Skills Portal helps staff to support postgraduate research students, identifying resources and skills training that will not only develop them as effective researchers but also enhance their transferable skills and subsequent employability.
