Bristol’s postgraduate opportunities span taught and research programmes and enable students to work across histories and through practices. The MA in Film and Television Studies is a one-year course that allows students to follow pathways in cinema or television in relation to textual, theoretical and institutional perspectives. The MA in Film and Television Production is a one-year practice-based course offering an intensive practical foundation in production disciplines. Fees for the course reflect its intensive nature, and cover teaching and resources and all production expenses and materials. Documentary Practice is a one-year course that develops the understandings and skills needed to produce documentary work at an advanced level. It assumes that students are technically competent in the medium in which they wish to work and while key areas focus on moving-image, screen-based forms, the programme actively embraces and supports interests in other forms, including photography, writing, audio/radio, web-sites, site-specific installations, and live performance. The MA in Archaeology for Screen Media is a one-year course combining both practical and historical groundings in current issues in archaeological representation, together with a practical introduction to filmmaking. The course is taught jointly between the Department of Drama and the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology. The MA in Composition of Music for Film and Television is a one-year course taught jointly with the Department of Music programme and provides professional training in the practice and ideas of composing for screen media. The MA in Performance Research is a one-year programme offering opportunities to explore a range of critical, conceptual and practical issues surrounding performance. We also offer MLitt and PhD programmes that may be practice-based or written dissertation only.

It is not possible to start at any other time. There are a limited number of scholarship opportunities available. Scholarships are available from the Arts and Humanities Research Council for UK students, however, please be aware that competition for these awards is strong.
