Staff
Barry Smith, who retired as a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Drama at the end of 2007, initiated the project. Previously, he was Professor of Performance Arts and Director of the Performance Arts Digital Research Unit in the School of Art & Design at Nottingham Trent University. Upon retirement, the bulk of his research work in live art and digital performance was acquired by the Theatre Collection, the associated databases subsequently being migrated for long-term preservation to the Arts and Humanities Data Service.
Nikki Milican
Nikki Milican is Visiting Industrial Professor in the Department of Drama. She is the Artistic Director of New Moves International and of the National Review of Live Art.
Barry Parsons
Barry Parsons has a PhD in English Literature and an MA in English (Twentieth Century Studies) from King’s College London. He has worked for several years in publishing and government as an editor and project manager. His doctoral research focused on the histories of sound and audiovisual technologies and the ways in which these enable new forms of cultural memory. He has a strong theoretical interest in the meanings of archives and new ways of engaging with them.
Stephen Gray
Stephen Gray has an MA in Fine Art (Lens-based Media) from Central Saint Martin’s School of Art, which he gained while working as an artist and visual effects designer. He has installed, cared for and documented media-based contemporary art at the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT), The Lowery and Tate Gallery, Liverpool. He is now studying for a second MA in Preventive Conservation and working towards accreditation via the Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers (PACR) scheme.
Clare Thornton
Clare Thornton is an artist engaged in collaborative interdisciplinary projects. She studied Theatre and English Literature MA (Hons) at University of Glasgow. She has presented her own work both in UK and abroad, including: Fierce! Performance Festival Birmingham, Filmmor Womens Film Festival Instanbul, TOU Scene Stavanger. She is Associate Artist for New Work Network, co-founder Thornton-Pitt and currently Artist in Residence at Groundwork (South West).
