Our graduate school population is typically made up of 50 PhD students and 40 students following taught or research Masters degree programmes. Our Masters programmes provide formal teaching and research experience. The Masters degree programmes also make for an effective doctoral training centre in which PhD candidates can supplement their research training with the advanced taught units that we offer. How to apply
Academic excellence is supported by state-of-the-art facilities including laboratories equipped to simulate conditions deep in our planet’s structure; to reconstruct conditions in ancient atmospheres and oceans, on far planets and galaxies; and to uncover evolutionary history.
Our programmes are designed to maximise your employability and, consequently, accelerate your career progression, whether your future is in the private sector or in academic research.
We draw on funding from the UK Research Councils, the European Union. Leverhulme Trust, Royal Society as well as industrial sponsors such as Shell, BP, BHP Billiton, ConocoPhillips and de Beers. We also enjoy links and support from Nuclear waste disposal programmes including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington DC.
