Research summary

Explaining the complex spatio-temporal evolutions of aftershock sequences requires causation mechanisms beyond coseismic elasto-static Coulomb static stress change crust. Therefore, the study of mechanisms which may transfer stresses in the postseismic phase is vital to our understanding of aftershocks and their associated hazard.

Specifically, my study is centred around the mechanism of aseismic afterslip - localized frictional sliding governed by velocity-strengthening rheologies around the fault-plane and particularly, beneath the seismogenic zone – and the extent to which the physical mechanism may drive and interact with aftershock sequences through stress redistribution in both space and time.

I have approached my research on ...
