Microeconomic Theory

Economic theory is essential to understanding why people behave the way they do and to design better economic policies.

The Microeconomic Theory group publishes in internationally leading journals and has expertise in a wide array of areas including game theory, mechanism design, decision theory and political economy. We regularly organise workshops and conferences including a recent Contract Theory Workshop with Nobel Prize winner Oliver Hart, the Bristol Junior Economic Theory Workshop, and we co-organize the Virtual Seminars in Economic Theory.

Our research covers the following areas:

  • Auction design
  • Contract theory
  • Decision Theory
  • Experimental Economics
  • Game theory
  • Information economics
  • Market design
  • Mechanism design
  • Political economy
  • Organisational economics
