The two week pilot programme worked with 12 high ability, high aspiration young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The young people benefited from seminars, skills building sessions and guest lectures designed to further their aspirations and prepare them to realise their future potential. The plan is to make the BLP an annual programme for the city, and one which is owned by the city.
The approach used was to knit together the expertise of leaders from across the social spectrum and a deliberately honed leadership culture. The intention is to apply this methodology to the way the city works to enable business, sports, the public sector and education to work together to identify and invest in leadership.
