Prof Michael Crossley announced BAICE President
12 September 2017
Prof. Michael Crossley has been announced President of the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE) 2017-18.
The announcement was made at the 14th International Conference on Education and Development, held at the University of Oxford, on Wednesday 6th September by BAICE Chair, Prof. Qing Gu, and Treasurer, Dr Malcolm Mercer.
This appointment is a recognition of Michael's eminent scholarship and tireless leadership in the field over a period of 30 years. In this time, he has published over 200 articles and books in the field, sat on the boards of three leading journals in the field and was chief editor of Comparative Education and served as Chair of BAICE. At Bristol, he founded the Centre for International and Comparative Studies, now known at the Centre for Comparative and International Research in Education (CIRE). The appointment is particularly significant as it coincided with the 20th anniversary of BAICE and the beginning of a new stage in Michael's career as he becomes Emeritus Professor.
The breadth and strength of research in International and Comparative Education in the School of Education was represented within a total of ten papers presented at the Conference in Oxford by staff and students. Presenters were Angeline Barrett, Julia Paulson, Sally Thomas, Tigist Grieve, Dave Bainton, Faizulami Osmin, Leanne Cameron, Artemio Cortez, Amy Walsh, Lei Zhang, of course, Michael himself.
