Rosemary Deem holds a BA Hons Social Sciences in Economic History & Sociology and an MPhil in Sociology of Education from Leicester University, and a PhD from the Open University course ‘Women and Leisure: a sociological investigation’
She taught at North Staffordshire Polytechnic and Loughborough in York, and the Open and Lancaster Universities before moving to Bristol in 2001.
At Lancaster she was Head of Department of Educational Research from 1992-4, Dean of Social Sciences 1994-7 and Founding Director of the University Graduate School from 1998-2000. She was also a member of ESRC Grants Board from 1999 to 2003.
