Equalities and Education
The Equalities and Education theme focuses on issues of diversity, access, inclusion, participation and social justice in education.
Our research investigates how structures, policies and practices in education shape and reinforce existing positions and how inequalities can be challenged, influencing identities and creating more equal outcomes in educational achievement.
Particular areas of interest include:
- inclusion, special education needs,
- the role of parents in education,
- widening access to and participation in higher education and
- educational experiences and outcomes of diverse and under-represented groups, including people from black and ethnic minorities, white working class and gypsy, roma and traveller communities.
