Between 16th and 18th March, Deaf sign-language poets from the UK and the US will come together to explore the beautiful artform of sign-language poetry with members of Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania, the local Deaf community and visitors from the wider community. Richard Carter, Paul Scott, Donna Williams and John Wilson will meet and work with Peter Cook and Debbie Rennie.The festival includes:
A public conversation between British and American poets; an open performance in British Sign Language and American Sign Language; a panel discussion on the themes and language used in sign-language poetry; and a workshop for fluent signers.
Signing Hands Across the Water will give College members and visitors a unique opportunity to discover the sign language poetry of the US and the UK. The festival is made possible by the William J Cooper Foundation at Swarthmore College.
