Postgraduate Graduation 2017
The School was delighted to welcome back students from the 2015/16 academic year along with friends and family for the Postgraduate Graduation Ceremony on 15 February 2017.
Graduation Ceremonies were held in the Great Hall of the Wills Memorial Building, and were presided over by Chancellor Sir Paul Nurse. An Honorary Doctor of Letters Degree was awarded to Matt Lucas in recognition of his service to comedy, television and film, who spent time at the University of Bristol between 1993-1995.
Matt Lucas is one of Britain's most recogniseable and well-loved entertainers. He has played characters such as George Dawes in the TV comedy gameshow Shooting Stars, co-written and starred in the Bafta-winning series Little Britain, and appeared in Hollywood films, most recently in Tim Burton's Alice Through the Looking Glass. Lucas said of the honour: "This is something I never thought would happen. My mum's got a wall in her house with a photo of my brothers getting their degrees, and two photos of my sister - she's got two degrees. Now, I'm going to have my photo on that wall."
Following the formal Degree Ceremony for School of Economics, Finance and Management students, a Graduation Tea Party was held in the Great Hall of Bristol Grammar School with entertainment provided by the The Bristol Hornstars from the University of Bristol Big Band Society. This was an excellent opportunity for our new graduates and their guests to meet with the School staff that have assisted and supported them throughout their studies.
