Use this link to download the Giles Guidelines (PDF, 142KB). The guidelines are used by Boards of Examiners for the degree of B.Sc. in Social Sciences. The document provides details on how marks achieved in the final examinations are combined to determine the degree class.
It is the policy of the School of Economics, Finance and Management that only visiting students not registered on Bristol degree programmes may take a dictionary into their examinations. The only dictionaries permitted are general dictionaries for translation between English and another language. Eligible students wishing to take a dictionary into examinations should complete an "Authorisation for the use of dictionaries in examinations" form available from the Undergraduate / Postgraduate Studies Offices. No evidence is required.
Students registered on Bristol degree programmes may not take a dictionary into their examinations.
Students are reminded that the only calculators which are permitted in examinations are scientific and non-programmable. Invigilators (who may not be from the School) can remove calculators which do not satisfy these specifications.
Because there are so many makes and types of calculators, we do not provide an approved list. Our advice to students is to get a simple calculator which cannot possibly be challenged.
