Research

My research interests concern the role of management control systems (budgeting, performance measurement and incentive systems) in shaping decision-makers' behaviour, particualrly in private sector contexts.

Specific research topics include:

  • the design, implementation and use of management control systems;
  • management control and decision-makers' time orientations;
  • the social psychology of management control;
  • the changing trajectory of management control systems in practice.

Teaching

In 2017, Emma together with Sam Bell and Adriana Korczak was awarded the University Award for Education as part of the Bristol Teaching Awards. The Bristol Teaching Awards recognise and reward those members of staff who have made an outstanding contribution to teaching, providing support for students and enhancing the student learning experience.
