Bristol's Crypto Group Hosts the World Cryptographers
Prof Nigel Smart is the General Chair of the conference, and so is organizing the entire logistical operation including the extensive social programme; which includes a special excursion to see Bletchley Park.
Dr Martijn Stam is acting as the Rump Session chair. The Rump Session is a traditional event at cryptography conferences in which breaking news, and sometimes the occasionally funny, talks are given.
In addition Nigel Smart and Martijn Stam are also co-authors of two of the main papers being presented at the conference. One paper on "Fully Homomorphic Encryption with Polylog Overhead" is co-authored by Nigel Smart with Craig Gentry and Shai Halevi of IBM Research and University of Bristol. The other paper on "Security of Symmetric Encryption in the Presence of Ciphertext Fragmentation" is co-authored by Martijn Stam with Alexandra Boldyreva of Georgia Institute of Technology and Jean Paul Degabriele and Kenneth G. Paterson of Royal Holloway College.
Nigel Smart said "The bringing of EuroCrypt back to the UK is a great achievement, and we look forward to a great conference. It is particularly fitting since 2012 is the centenary of Alan Turing's birth; and almost every cryptographic paper discusses concepts which directly descend from Turing's work."
