Summary
Professor Dimitra Simeonidou is the head of the High Performance Networks Laboratory. She joined University of Bristol in September 2012 after spending 15 years at the University of Essex where she established the internationally renowned High Performance Networks group. Professor Simeonidou received a BSc and MSc degree in 1987 and 1989 from the Physics Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and in 1994 a PhD degree from the University of Essex. From 1994-1998 she worked for Alcatel Submarine systems where she held the post of Senior Principle Engineer and contributed to the introduction of WDM in long haul submarine links and pioneered the design and deployment of optical add drop multiplexers She joined academia in 1998 and she is currently a full professor at Bristol where leads a research team of 20 researchers. Her research is focusing in the fields of optical networks, network control and service management, integration of networks with high performance applications such as emerging media, grid and cloud computing and Future Internet research and experimentation. She is the author and co-author of over 350 papers, 11 patents and several standardisation documents
