Biography

In 2011 Gianfranco Fiore received his M.Sc. degree in Control Engineering from the University of Naples “Federico II” with a thesis in Nonlinear Control on the “Design and implementation in microfluidics of control algorithms for biological systems”.

In 2015 he got the PhD in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from the University of Naples “Federico II”, defending a thesis on the “Identification and Control of living cells”, after a three years internship at the TeleThon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Naples under the supervision of Prof. Diego di Bernardo.

In the 2015 he has been hired as a Post Doctoral Research Associate from the BBSRC/EPSRC funded Bristol Centre for Synthetic Biology (BrisSynBio) at the University of Bristol. Now, in Bristol, he is focusing his research activity on the design and fabrication of novel microfluidic devices for the real time control of bacterial cell population and, on the design and implementation of embedded cellular controllers. He also contributed to the set up and is the person in charge of the BrisSynBio's microfluidics foundry (photolithography and replica molding stations) established in the new clean room at the University of Bristol (School of Physics).
