Dr Theo Tryfonas

Cybersecurity and Smart Cities

I work broadly in the fields of smart cities, cybersecurity, sustainability and systems engineering. My work in smart cities includes energy efficiency of wireless sensor networks, secure and resilient operation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, privacy in mobile computing, open data architectures for smart buildings, integration of industrial control systems and SCADA with the IoT etc. In general I am interested in how these technologies can be used to deliver a more sustainable future – both in terms of resource efficiency and of operational improvement.

My research in cybersecurity includes applying Systems techniques for information risk management, such as system dynamics and viable system modelling, network analytics and game theory. I have also worked on digital forensics techniques, looking at the extraction and analysis of digital evidence, particularly from emerging technologies such as mobile phones, wireless sensor networks and social media. In addition, I have provided evidence in court as Expert Witness on a number of cases.
