Microwave neuro-functional brain imaging

Microwave neuro-functional brain imaging

The Group has a long-standing tradition in health-related research focusing on utilising a world-leading expertise in computational and experimental electromagnetics applied to medical imaging. Our vision is to apply a multi-disciplinary approach to solving challenging societal Health problems.

The Group is best-known for its work on breast cancer imaging using a microwave radar-based technique, having developed the world’s first clinical prototype of the Microwave Radar-based Imaging System and performed several clinical trials.

Our current research program is focused on building a 3D microwave imaging system, both radar-based and tomographic, for advanced medical applications:

  • Neuro-functional brain imaging (similar to fMRI)
  • contrast-enhanced cancer detection
  • bone and brain-injury monitoring.
