Students Working To Help The Environment
Sustainability values the role that students can play in improving the University’s environmental impact, whether campaigning for change, assisting the implementation of projects or learning how their activities affect the environment, students play a key role in helping reduce the Universities environmental impact.
Here are some of the ways that students can get involved:
NEW*** 2011/2012 Bristol Sustainability PLuS Award
The Bristol Sustainability PLuS Awards recognise and reward University of Bristol students who have gained significant professional and life skills through extra-curricular experiences with a Sustainability focus which are important now more than ever in the current graduate labour market. Skills and Careers in Sustainability
Sustainability offer Carbon and Waste audit training. This can contribute to a Sustainability PLuS Award. For more details please check www.bristol.ac.uk/environment/news.

Halls Ethics and Environmental Teams (HEET)
If you are in a hall or university owned student house this is a great way to get involved in environmental and ethical projects, campaigns and events.
HEETs are networks of students that work together on environmental and ethical issues/projects in both halls and the wider University and community, with the aim of reducing their environmental impact. For more information email sustainability-estates@bristol.ac.uk.
Bristol Hub
The Bristol Hub is a network of social, environmental, voluntary and developmental societies at Bristol University, linking with the wider community & connecting students with causes.

Green Impact Unions
This is an accreditation scheme to help green unions, and its had a re-vamp! Formerly known as the Sound Environmental Impact Awards, the Green Impact Students’ Union programme is an accreditation scheme for environmental good-practice in Students’ Unions.

Green Impact
The University of Bristol Green Impact Awards offer a practical way of helping departments become greener, whilst celebrating the small steps that individuals are taking to reduce our collective environmental impacts. Green Impact challenges departments to implement a number of easy practical actions that will help the environment. The more actions completed by a department the more points are scored, leading to a Bronze, Bronze Plus, Silver, Gold or Platinum Award.

A Bristol Guide to Local Living
A guide written by students, for students, all about living in the wonderful city of Bristol and having a positive impact on your local and global community during your time here.
The guide is a practical directory of local ethical groups/campaigns/shops/services and gives information and support for volunteering, campaigning and taking positive social change.

Education
If you have the opportunity to take Open Units, you could consider taking a unit which allows you to focus on the environment. Have a look at:
- Sustainable Development (taught by staff from Geographical Sciences, History, Economics, Law, Philosophy, Earth Sciences, Engineering and Education)
- Environment Earth (run by Earth Sciences)
- World in Crisis? (run by Geographical Sciences)
- Globalisation and Development (run by Economics)
