Batteries

If batteries are not disposed of correctly they can damage the environment due to the toxic chemicals and heavy metals contained in them. For this reason their disposal is governed by the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 and the Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009. 

To aid battery recycling, battery bins have been located around the University.  To find your nearest collection point download the battery location list (PDF 40 kB).

To ensure the University manages its Duty of Care requirements and to maximise recycling Sustainability have written a battery disposal procedure (PDF 35kB).  Please ensure you follow the procedure when disposing of batteries as their disposal is banned from landfill and incineration and all batteries MUST be disposed of via a specialist contractor.
