WEEE

Under the heading of WEEE we have included all electrical equipment falling under The Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 and The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006. This includes all It equipment, telecommunications, electrical and electronic equipment and refrigeration equipment.

In the first instance departments can advertise unwanted non-IT equipment for reuse within other University departments. Any equipment that cannot be reused within the University is sent for recycling. Unwanted IT equipment or equipment capable of holding data must be referred to your IT zonal manager in the first instance.

Full details are available in the University Procedure for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Disposal and associated disposal form.

Waste laboratory equipment from hazardous areas must be assessed where they have been exposed to biological or chemical materials or radioactivity. A contaminated item clearance ‘permit’ must be attached the item where it has been stored for disposal and submitted to Sustainability along with a WEEE disposal form as normal.
