Welcome to the University of Bristol Athena SWAN site. The Athena SWAN Charter recognises commitment to advancing women's careers in science, technology, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education. The University of Bristol is a founder member of the Royal Society Athena SWAN (Scientific Women's Academic Network) Charter which recognises excellence in SET (science, engineering and technology) employment in higher education, with particular regard to gender equality.
The University of Bristol is proud to have been one of the first Universities to be successful in being awarded the Athena SWAN Bronze Award. A small number of Athena SWAN Awards have also been achieved by the University's Faculties and Schools in recognition of their success in providing positive support for women in STEMM during their careers.
The University of Bristol is strengthening its commitment to gender equality through its aim to increase the proportion of Faculties and Schools achieving the Athena SWAN Awards for their various achievements, initiatives and actions in recruiting and promoting women in SET. Further information and details on progress will be posted on this website.
