The expectations / tasks for this role are provided below. The aim is to provide a consistent service to faculties that is centred on a provision of expert advice, whilst building relationships, improving communications and sharing good practice across the institution as a whole.
Standard Expectations / Tasks for the Faculty Liaison Role
1. To be a potential first point of contact for any queries relating to quality assurance / enhancement, educational development and technology-enhanced learning from the faculty (and its constituent schools). This however should not prevent staff contacting another person in ESU, or the faculty liaison person passing a query on to another member of staff, as appropriate.
2. To attend relevant faculty meetings as appropriate to provide timely advice on relevant matters. The faculty liaison person (assurance and enhancement) should be invited to attend relevant faculty committees where learning and teaching issues are discussed e.g. Faculty Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Committees, or the Faculty Learning and Teaching Group, and Faculty Quality Enhancement Team meetings (though not attend the actual visits). The faculty liaison person (technology-enhanced learning) should attend faculty meetings where matters relating to technology-enhanced learning are on the agenda.
3. To advise on any relevant faculty–level projects relating to quality assurance, enhancement or technology-enhanced learning (where feasible and appropriate to the faculty liaison person).
4. To liaise with the relevant members of ESU acting as review co-ordinators for School Reviews in their faculty to ensure that they are aware of any relevant developments/issues.
5. To feedback to ESU good practice and developments taking place in the faculties.
Central to these tasks is the development / continuation of a good mutual working relationship between the ESU (via the faculty liaison persons) and the Faculty (via the Faculty Education Directors, FQET Chair (and team), School Heads of Teaching, the Faculty Manager, the Faculty Education Manager and other staff) to help facilitate future discussions relating to quality assurance, enhancement, technology-enhanced learning and the student experience.
