Within the team we have broad and deep experience of many other practices and tools so if you cannot see what you are looking for we may still be able to assist. Practice Description
e-Assessment e-Assessment embraces a wide range of practices such as online testing, self and peer assessment, and e-portfolios where student collection of work is assessed.
e-Voting The use of software and small handheld wireless devices to make classes and lectures more engaging, enjoyable and effective. e-Voting can also be effective for surveying students and facilitating timely feedback.
Online tutorials Passive or interactive self-study materials designed to teach a specific learning objective.
Self and peer assessment The use of technology to facilitate and manage self and peer assessment.
e-Submission and e-marking Online submission and marking of assignments, and plagiarism checking.
Coursecasting A way of recording lectures and other teaching activities and making the recordings available over the Internet.

Note: We provide two levels of support for tools, i.e. Level 1 and Level 2.

Tool Description Support level
Blackboard The University’s centrally supported online learning environment. Blackboard provides staff and students with access to a range of tools for communication, collaboration, and assessment as well as offering an online area to share resources like course notes and reading lists.

Level 1

Questionmark Perception Dedicated online assessment system. It complements Blackboard by providing more sophisticated online assessment tools with greater flexibility regarding question types, marking schemes and feedback options.

Turnitin A suite of online tools used for mainly for plagiarism detection, but which has also been recently extended to include online marking and peer review. This service is primarily available through Blackboard.

Wimba Create Previously called 'Course Genie', an add-in program for Microsoft Word that enables you to easily produce interactive online tutorials for delivery via the Internet, DVD or Blackboard. Tutorials typically consist of a navigable sequence of web pages that can include text, images, multimedia, self-test questions and various other activities.

Camtasia A tool for creating screencasts. Typically used to record live presentations (screen and audio narration) or create passive tutorials or for delivery via the web, Blackboard or DVD.
