Assignment Handler

What is it?

The Assignment Handler is a plug-in for Blackboard which was piloted from Spring 2010- Summer 2011 as part of the Integrated e-learning Services Project (IELs) . It offered enhanced online submission functionality including:

• Batch upload of feedback files and marks
• Feedback template files
• E-mail receipts for students
• Option to handle assignments submitted offline. Receipts sent and feedback can be provided via Blackboard.
• Automatic file renaming on submission e.g. to add user and module identifiers
• Control of when feedback & marks are available to students
• Conditional release of marks only when students have engaged with feedback

Pilot findings

Pilots of the AH mainly focused on receipts , notifications and batch upload of feedback.  E-mail receipts worked well and students liked them.  Batch upload of feedback was found to be very useful functionality in principle but most staff found the system  “clunky”. The system was not found to be intuitive and if staff did make mistakes these were time-consuming to resolve afterwards.
