Questionmark: Delivering assessments

The following 'HOW TOs'  section provides a quick reference to Delivering assessments.  See Delivering on the  Questionmark's own guide for detailed information about this functionality.

Questionmark perception offers a variety of delivery options, that range from secure to open delivery using a standard browser or a lock down browser. Academics will need to decide at the planning stage what methods of delivering they want to use for their assessment after discussing the option with the e-learning team.

Methods of delivering assessments

Below are the different options for delivering assessment with Questionmark

  • web delivery (online delivery) participants need to have an Internet connection to start, take and submit the assessment
  • web delivery with Questionmark Secure
  • off line delivery using the Questionmark to Go player
  • Through Blackboard: coming soon!
  • Paper delivery (Print and Scan) is not currently included in our license.

HOW TOs

Deliver the assessment through web delivery

(students need to be connected to the Internet to start, take and submit the assessment via a standard or a secure browser)

Log onto Enterprise Manager > select participants/group> Schedule> Web delivery.

Deliver an assessment via the secure platform (Authenticated UoB users)

Log onto Enterprise Manager > select participants/group> Schedule> Web delivery.

Provide participants with the link to the UoB questionmark secure login

Deliver an assessment via the open platform

Log onto Authoring Manager > Assessments> Edit Assessment> double click on Control Block> Security> tick Allow open access to assessment.

  1. Provide the participant with the link to the open platform  (https://qmp.bris.ac.uk/perception5/open.php) 'username' and 'password' can be anything
  2. Provide the participant with a direct link to the assessment by by passing the login screen

Log onto Enterprise Manager > select participants/group> Schedule> Web delivery.

Create a link by replacing the information in bold with your own information

https://qmp.bris.ac.uk/perception5/open.php?SESSION=2599341991958498&NAME
=Tutor&GROUP=ESU (case sensitive)

2599341991958498: the 16 digit number is your assessment ID (right click on your assessment to find out the ID)

ESU: the name of your group

Deliver assessment through off line delivery

Log onto Enterprise Manager > select participants/group> Schedule> Schedule for Questionmark to Go

Please note: only select this option if you want the students to take the test off line and then upload the results at a later stage.

Deliver an assessment using the Questionmark secure browser.

The questionmark secure browser is a lock down browser that can be used to prevent students from accidentally closing the browser or browsing the Internet while they are taking a test.

See Questionmark Secure on Questionmark's own guide for more information about the browser.

Participants needs to install the Secure player onto their own machines before taking an assessment with QMP by downloading it from their participant login screen.
If you would like to use Questionmark secure for assessments that participants can take from their own location, it is recommended to set up a test assessment to enable the participants to install the player before they take the real assessment. Installing the player is straight forward. For more information see Questionmark Secure participant  guide  on the Questionmark's own guide

Log onto Authoring Manager>Assessment>Edit Assessment>Control block>Security>Require Questionmark Secure

Assessment templates

The way an assessment is presented to a participant depends on the assessment template. Template in V5 can be completely customisable, for instance it is possible to change the navigation,  include a calculator or display a static introduction as in scenario based assessment. The e-learning team provide support for customising the template, we would recommend users to identify which settings need to be included in the template and contact e-learning to request a consultation.

There are two ways in which questions can be displayed in an assessment

The 'all questions on one page' or 'QxQ delivery are part of the template settings, sometimes this depends on how many questions are included in an assessment, for instance if the assessment contains less than 15 short questions a 'all questions in one page' template might be the best solution, but if the assessment contains more than 20 questions, some of which include a lengthy  introduction, a 'QXQ' template might be more appropriate.

Troubleshooting

The link to my open assessment doesn't work anymore.

The upgrade to Questionmark Version 5 in September 2011 changed some of the server setting and as a result the link to open assessment set up with version 4 are no longer working. The solution is to amend the link by replacing two parts of the code as explained below:

'q4' > 'perception5'

and

'open.dll' > 'open.php'

Students have emailed me saying that they can't log onto the system, does this mean that the system is down?

No, if the system was down users would get redirected to a webpage with information about why the system was down.

It is possible that the students are entering their UoB username and password into the guest user login or administrator login (this happens if they have been directed to the qmp hompage where all three links are available)

Ensure that student are logging in in the UoB questionmark secure login

I've timed my assessment but when I log on I can't see the timer

This sometimes happens if the assessment name contains an apostrophe (Thursday's test) . Apostrophes are considered 'illegal' characters and should not be used in assessment or group name. Please see more information on the administration page
